Consejo Indígena y Popular de Guerrero-Emiliano Zapata - CIPOG-EZ

The Consejo Indígena y Popular de Guerrero-Emiliano Zapata -CIPOG-EZ- (Indigenous and Popular Council of Guerrero - Emiliano Zapata) is an indigenous organisation formed in 2008, bringing together the indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples of the Montaña and Costa Chica regions of Guerrero, Mexico. Its human rights work has focused on the defence of territory, the autonomy of the communities, education and the collective rights of indigenous peoples.

The organisation main activities involve the promotion of indigenous peoples own forms of organisation and governance, as well as the creation of knowledge centres for the political, technical and cultural training of individuals who advocate community-based thinking. Through this work, CIPOG-EZ seeks to strengthen dignified conditions for the health, the security and the autonomy of the indigenous communities. They are part of the Congreso Nacional Indígena -CNI- (National Indigenous Congress), which also promote the rights and culture of indigenous peoples.

As a result of its work, defending communities and territories, CIPOG-EZ has faced constant persecution. Between September 2014 and June 2026, 84 members have been murdered and 25 remain missing. The communities have endured an intense process of criminalisation, persecution, assaults and armed attacks both against them and specifically against the CIPOG-EZ promoters.
